I remember I asked my boss for the day off to go to the court...

It was strange to me how few people I worked with knew about the case, but I thought it'd be important to go. It was really amazing. I remember celebrating outside the courthouse and marching to the White House to watch the lights on the building make a rainbow.

Ironically enough, the War Against Terror made a huge difference in visibility, maybe moreso than Obergefell at the end of the day, but I haven't faced discrimination since then. Maybe not because of the decision, but because of policy. It was important in setting the tone of the Army leadership and validating the culture of moving to a very diverse leadership. So even though the culture of the Army was changing already, the decision really set in stone the way we went about things like handling discrimination.
